Project 6- Final sequence

  1. 1 - Good shot to establish the sequence, I like that you are setting the scene and what is to come. The lighting in the upper left corner is a bit distracting

2 - This shot adds variety because you are taking it at the same level as the person, and in all the other photos they are riding the skateboard and here they sit on it. I interpret this as telling the story of someone preparing to skate - or taking a break.

3 - This shot is cool and kind of psychological. I like the focus of the skateboard and that the person is either putting on or taking off the sweatshirt, it adds to the evolution of the story of skateboarding. I think to improve this photo you could somehow focus on the sky as well, so it is not so much positive space and instead adds to the composition.

4 - Nice action shot and I think you captured a Decisive Moment. The feet being still in the air and on the board makes this an interesting photo. To improve this photo I think you could have gotten closer and at a different angle, like laying on the ground maybe.

5 - I don't think this one adds much to the overall story, unless it is the person falling off his board, but it is kind of hard to tell what happened. Maybe if his board was in the air or he was in the middle of falling.

6 - I like the setting of this one and the action shot. My suggestion to improve this photo would be to move closer to enhance the composition and have less blacktop in the frame.

7 - I think this shot could have been improved bu lining up the frame with the pillars in the background. I like the colors in this photo and the action shot.

8 - I think this photo is a strong one to end on, and my personal favorite. The hand on the ground really adds a cool aspect and colors to this image. This is another good action shot and Decisive Moment shot. You got this person at the right time to capture them in the air and it really captures the essence of skateboarding.

I think these are really great shots. My critique is with the storytelling, because I'm not quite sure what the direction is because the person changes. Maybe the idea is just to capture skateboarding, but I can't think of anything more specific than that. There were 2 images I did not find essential, which were 5 & 7. I think instead you could have captured someone falling off their board while they are mid air to show that not every trick works out and you have to fall to learn. However, overall I think this was a great way to show off your photography skills and was a great idea. I enjoyed looking at your photos!
